My partner and I had been to workshops on same-sex parenting, insemination procedures, and legal issues to consider when staring a family. This was a huge decision for us and one that we took very seriously. I tracked my basal body temperature for three months. I wanted to share my story with you so others would know how amazing The Total Conception is and the joy that is has brought to my life. I am a 37 year old single woman. I have a very successful career and have never really had a chance to focus on my personal life. When I reached the age of 35 I knew if I wanted to have a child I would need to start seriously considering my options. As a single woman I knew the best route for me would be donor sperm. I was lucky enough to have a best friend who was in a similar situation as me and was willing to give me his sperm. We went through the whole legal process and then I had planned on doing AID (artificial insemination by donor) with my OB/GYN. While I knew this was going to be costly and there was no guarantee I figured that was my only option. That was before I found The Total Conception. I had been doing some research online when I came across it. Although at first I was a bit skeptical, I figured that I had nothing to lose in buying it and trying it. It was also the first kit I came across that was geared toward non-traditional couples such as me and my best friend. When I received the kit I was extremely impressed right off the bat. The packaging was great, the directions were very clear, and it gave me everything I needed to make conception happen without having to have intercourse with my best friend. I decided that I was going to only use the cervical cap and not the ICI catheter they provided. This was only because I would be doing the “inseminating” myself and I wasn’t comfortable doing the other procedure alone. The cervical cap was very easy to use. After this first try a few weeks later I started feeling strange. I thought it was all in my head and my hormones were probably out of whack. I took a pregnancy test which was provided to me in the kit and when I saw a positive result I nearly fell to the floor!!! I called my doctor immediately to set up a blood test to confirm this incredible news and when she walked in her office with a smile on her face I knew my dream had come true!
